    Select Common Engineering Materials  

    Welcome to MEM30007A Select Common Engineering Materials 

    Theses units are taught together and covers recognising common materials used in engineering, assisting in the selection of a material for a specific application, and using test results to evaluate the properties of materials.

    This unit applies to technician level activities in manufacturing and engineering environments.

    The topics that will be covered in this course are:

      • Topic 1 - Structure of materials
      • Topic 2 - Physical properties
      • Topic 3 - Mechanical properties
      • Topic 4 - Materials testing methods
      • Topic 5 - Classification of Materials
      • Topic 6 - The materials selection process
      • Topic 7 - Chemical properties
      • Topic 8 - Engineering applications of ferrous metals
      • Topic 9 - Engineering applications of non-ferrous metals
      • Topic 10 - Polymers
      • Topic 11 - Effects of mechanical and thermal processes on the properties of materials

    This Learn course has been developed to support your Lectures which may be held online or in a classroom.  In this Learn course, you will find:

    • Practice quiz questions to assist your learning, and
    • Your project assessment tasks.

    You may complete the practice quiz questions as many times as you like.  Results of practice quiz questions do not form part of your final result for this unit. 

    This unit is assessed with:

    • Two theory assessments
    • Two project assessments
    Your Lecturer will provide detailed instructions about how and when you will need to complete your assessments in your classes.
