Course Description

The Diploma of Financial Planning qualification is for financial planners who provide a range of standard financial planning services and individuals providing specialist para-planning services.

The successful completion of the Diploma of Financial Planning course is the primary pathway into this exciting, rewarding and prosperous career. Typically this qualification will lead you into employment as a financial para-planner. This will start you on the road to success where you will be providing advice to clients on financial products and services and playing an important part of building your clients and Australia's prosperity

 This qualification enhances the employability skills and knowledge by enabling the candidate to;

  • provide advice in financial planning,
  • provide appropriate services, advice and products to clients,
  • provide advice in superannuation,
  • provide advice in life insurance,
  • provide advice in insurance broking,
  • provide financial planning advice,
  • comply with financial planning practice ethical and operational guidelines and regulations,
  • conduct financial planning analysis and research,
  • develop and prepare financial plan,
  • implement financial plan,
  • review financial plans and provide ongoing service,
  • determine client requirements and expectations,
  • apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry and
  • develop and use complex spreadsheets

Career Opportunities:

This qualification is perfect for those wishing to engage in careers such as that of a: financial planner, lending officer, branch manager, customer services officer and card services officer.

Professional Accreditation: 

The FNS50611 Diploma of Financial Planning satisfies the educational requirement of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)  Tier 1 RG146 Compliance for those wanting to provide either  general advice or personal advice on deposit products and non-cash payment products.

Course Admission Requirements (CAR):

TAFE SA has a number of ways for students to meet the Course Admission Requirements (CAR). The CAR for the Diploma of Financial Planning is any one of following;

  • relevant working experience in the financial service sector
  • successful completion of any Certificate II or higher
  • successful completion of SACE or equivalent
  • successful completion of the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills test (TABS)

The TABS is an alternative for applicants with no other way of demonstrating that they meet the CAR. For more information, click onTABS

Assessments:

Assessments may include, but are not limited to: online activities and validation assessments as prescribed within each unit of competency. 

Online activities                 

The TAFE SA Learn application will host online activities that are designed to assess your understanding of the key theories and concepts of the course. These activities will provide you with the opportunity to test your own learning and to identify areas that may require further study. Once your activities have been submitted, you will be provided with solutions to check against your own work.

Validation assessment

The contents of the validation assessment will cover material discussed in the compulsory reading material and online activities. The exact form of the validation assessment will be unsupervised and/or supervised as prescribed within each course profile or advised by your lecturer/ teaching assistant. Study Mode:

Duration:

The course duration is 12 months full time or part time equivalent.

Study Load:

TAFE SA Accounting and Finance division expects students to devote a total of 12 hours per week to each unit of study.
