Microsoft Office 2010 or equivalent and a stable internet connection are the main two requirements you will need. 

It's also handy to have about 2GB of RAM and a USB port or two. 

Adobe Reader XI is an advantage, as is a printer and scanner.

Many students successfully complete their course using a laptop in conjunction with a tablet or smart phone for when they're on the move.  It's a matter of finding what suits you.
