The following options are available for those who may, or may not, have completed prior qualifications.  Click here to view the other TPB educational requirements.

If you do not have prior qualifications

You will need to complete the FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting qualifications to satisfy the TPB educational requirements for the BAS agent registration or renewal.

If you do have prior qualifications

If you have previously awarded a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) or (Accounting) or a  higher award than a Certificate IV in the field of bookkeeping or accounting (for example, a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree) and

If you not completed following two unit of competency:

·FNSBKG405A Establish and maintain a payroll system.

·FNSBKG404  Carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks

You can achieve the TPB educational requirements for the BAS agent registration or renewal to satisfy any one of the following two options.

Option 1:  successfully complete Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) approved course in GST/BAS Taxation Principles (TPB 7)

Option 2: successfully complete the following two nationally accredited units of competency.

Additional course requirement

From 1 July 2013  BAS agents are required to have completed a course in Australian taxation law that is approved by the Tax Practitioners Board and must have completed a course which includes a component in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA), including the Code of Professional Conduct (Code).
